Can I still cut back crepe myrtle trees?

My trees need it badly not sure if too late brfore budding.
What is easy way to do this without doing what's called crepe murder?

    not certain where you are at; but down here in Texas; we are advised to NOT cut them back unless it is absolutely necessary; they will not bloom for several years if cut back; and I like my crepe myrtle blooms... :D

      Thank you. I'm in NC. fortunately no buds yet, but I am going to have to hire someone to do the work, probably late winter nxt year. My trees are way too large. I love the blooms also.
