Hydrangeas should not be pruned until the new growth appears so you can establish which is the dead wood. chances are to much was cut back therefore the are no blooms.
Yep ! you pruned at the wrong time.... good news ! they should be fine next year...
You say until " new growth"..which is the spring...which is when I always did it and they bloomed. But maybe I cut back to far. No trimming this year!
