I use SEVEN (I think that is how it is spelled) from Home Depot or Lowes or any garden shop. If you don't want to use chems, you can use soapy water on the leaves. I have never had that problem. The lava may be in the dirt. Move the spot where you plant them. See if that helps.

Thank you for your input, I have tried seven , I must have the most chemical resistant bugs in the world, they chewed their way right through it.

Squash bugs are nasty. Wear garden gloves. And squish those devils. Go out early on the a m...kill the adults you see but then hold the leaves up where the sun shines thru and you can see the eggs in a v formation along the veins of the leaves. All ou have to dos squish those first few adults and carry a small cole slaw container w a squirt of water and dawn in it along with a small piece of tee shirt...dunk it in the soapy water and gentlywipehe eggs off. They are stuck a sticky substance and the dawn releases them.

i do it early in The morning w cup of coffee. That's how you control them...you get the first 5 or six adults in he beginning and clean up the eggs. If you don't they will overtake your cukes, squshes and melons. No poison...seven is not something you want to eat or feed your family..
