I personally prefer submerged pumps that are housed in a professional grade pond skimmer. However if you have a large and unsightly pressure/ bead filter I would use plantings or fake rocks meant to hide such things. I like to naturalize things so I personally wouldn't want a wooden structure but thats just me.
