When I have had to drywall a small area a remodel in the bath room, I primer first and then see if there is some rough looking spots. If there is then I use drywall "mud" and smooth over the rough spots. Then reprimer and paint.
If it's really uneven, maybe a resand and reprime?
So, here's where my OCD kicks in........prime the entire wall and then paint. Flat and eggshell finishes will hide a lot of flaws. Drives me nuts when I just 'know' there's an uneven area on a wall, my eyes go to that spot every time.
Remember, newly patched areas must be primed first prior to painting. Best of luck.
I'm guessing you used a paint with a "sheen" to it as opposed to a "flat" finish. The higher the gloss the more flaws will show.
If it has too many imperfections you could always use a textured paint a roll on a light texture to hide the uneveness.
