It's easy to change up color with Chalk paint. There are a ton of brands available. Just look at your local hardware or craft store. Either sand it a bit before painting or prime it with a good primer. After you paint it you can let it dry and sand off some areas to 'distress it a bit. Then add clear wax over top and if you want an even more distressed look you can add dark wax just on some areas or over the whole thing. Add some new jazzy drawer pulls (the best ones I've found are either at hobby lobby or Menards) and your all done! There are a ton of tutorials on the internet for these techniques. Have fun!
If chalk paint too pricey, buy a quart of flat latex in color of your choice, and to every cup add 1 to 2 tblsps. of unsanded grout. (instant chalk paint). No need to sand prior, just paint & wax. You can distress with sand-paper to give it an aged look. Have Fun !!
Had some brand new Nativity Family pieces, wanted them painted old world look. The artist first gave them a coat of black, then added muted colors and wiped off some of the finished paint color leaving behind the under coat of black shadows. Could do a midnight blue with a lighter blue top coat for same effect maybe?
We just experimented with the paint in our garage on some wooden candle sticks . We spray painted them white and after they were dry, rubbed on a dark stain, then rubbed it off. It gave them a beautiful antique look !
