Vinegar mixed with water, salt and a dab of soap. Just remember it will also kill anything else around.

Vinegar in a spray bottle will also do the job. Be careful, though. It will kill grass, too.

Cut the plant back and pour the vinegar directly on the root. I cut the leaves and add them to a pot of spinach, mustard greens, etc and eat them. taste good and good for you.

When we moved to this location the dandelions were thick. Then on a segment of "Paul James the Gardner Guy" he said to pluck the flowers and potential flowers and it will stop the growth of the plant. For four years now we have done just that. Our dandelion population has been reduced to maybe ten of them. Hoping to finish them off this year.

Won't that kill my grass around it also? I use a mixture of vinegar and salt as my "roundup", but have been afraid to try it in the middle of my yard so close to my good grass....what's left of it anyway. lol

They are entirely edible, besides the tea. The greens, that young, at least, make good spicy salad greens. Older greens can be cooked like all greens, mustard greens and such. The flowers can be pulled apart and added to salads or other foods for color. Somehow we came to think of dandelions only as weeds, but they're more! You can also make wine with them, but that's a bit more work.

Apart from the dandelion almost being a gift to the world from The Divine..if you don't want to make salads, wine, or tinctures..you just want them gone, and you don't want to change the soil with vinegar, salt, or kill harmless unsuspecting critters with boiling water...then I have an idea that I use that really works, saves your back..quite simple..only cut with your bag on the lawnmower, cut short to make sure you get the yellow blooms...place these in a paper compost bag .. they will dry out..in a few weeks..at that time you can dispose of either by burning if you are allowed, or taking them for a drive to countryside where there are already acres of them growing anyway..dump, take your paper bag home, and do it again..don't water your lawn..during dandelion season..eventually they get weak from sending up new shoots, flowers and leaves..when the season is over..THEN I REALLY ATTACK with my garden propane tool and burn them out..you will create little circles of black burnt grass as well...don't worry about that..but keep a keen eye on burning the turf...keep cutting as usual...eventually the black burned areas will get smaller and smaller..with the greedy dandelions gone, the grass will not have it's competitive interloper getting all the nutrition out of the soil..and will thicken out..this worked for me..if you have acres of property that is entirely a different situation and would require a heavy dose of iron laced weed control...harmless to man and beast but will cause the dandelions and any other weeds to literally grow themselves to death and then turn black and die out...but no matter what you do..those yellow blooms must not be allowed to become the cloud seed cluster and grow new plants..I prefer bagging ... sometimes it means cutting the lawn almost every second day..until the majority is gone..and then when there are just a few...no relaxing allowed..I hand pick them off, into my paper bag ... hope that helps...

Thank you so much! That may be a good possibility for me since I have such a small lawn!
