Replacing an old 24" gas oven.

My oven is old and not working properly. I'm afraid to use it. I found one I want at Sears online. The problem is my cutout is 1/4" too tall and my gas line and shutoff valve in behind the oven. All newer ovens require the gas shutoff valve to be on the bottom of the cabinet floor. Also the installation directions show the electrical outlet underneath the oven, mine is in a cutout (for a microwave) above the oven. I don't know if the electrical cord is long enough to reach. I can't afford a kitchen remodel but I have to have an oven. Any ideas?

I can help with the cord part. Sears used to sell longer cords. You should ask before buying if the cord can be replaced.

when you say cut out is 1/4 inch to tall.... are talking about the counter? if so try putting shimms under the feet of the oven or a scrap piece of 1/4 inch plywood to get it to match up with the counter.

as far as getting the gas to it, you will need to call a pro. they will have the adaptive connectors, additional gas line, etc. you do not want a gas leak in the house.

You will need a pro to install, they must test for leaks. While I can do this myself I am not certified and for insurance reasons I have someone certified- we have a retired GE serviceman in my area. . The new gas install kits have flex hose to go from where ever the valve is now to the new range. The power cord on a gas range is plenty long to reach to a outlet inches above the counter. I replaced one two weeks ago. My GE guy commented the Kenmore range was made by GE. If you will be happy with white or almond, very good deals are often found on gently used gas stove as folks "upgrade" to stainless can be found on Criagslist and the fb on line yard sales.

I agree with Dfm. Call your gas company for help installing the gas. They have professionals that have experience dealing with these problems. They also have insurance in case something drastic ever happens. It is well worth the money for safety and peace of mind.
