Open shelves are best. The child can see them easily and can put them back in an orderly fashion. Much better than toy boxes. An easy way to make these is with one by twelves supported on concrete blocks. Worked great for me for 40 years of preschool!!

You can put bins on the shelves (plastic dishpans are good) and put a picture of what kind of toy goes in each bin (Legos, blocks, toy soldiers, etc.). That way, even small kids will know where stuff goes and be able to help clean up after themselves.

i agree w/dishpans. $ store bins hold up for light use but not kids long term. also anchor shelves so they don't topple over if they are climbers

how abt a hammock I can just picture how cute this would be, and how much fun for your child to be able to see the toys thru the hammock Fun too throwing the toys into the hammock.
