Shower dispensers

Has anyone had any experience with soap/shampoo shower dispensers. Precautions? Recommended brands? Having new shower put in, but don't like built-in soap dishes and trays. Thanks

One precaution - we had one in our previous place and it collected mold around it. If you get one, it's good to wipe it down every couple of days, and make sure that when you install it, it's air tight on the wall. Good luck!

I clean "other" people's homes and never had any position on this until then. lol Don't get a metal one unless it's very good quality because it will rust and look yucky. If you get a plastic one, just take it out of the shower every couple of weeks and stick it in your dishwasher. Bar soap is pretty much the only thing that you will have to chisel off after awhile. I really don't like bar soap as it causes soap scum and body wash doesn't. But men (like my husband) have an affinity for bar soaps, not sure why. If you can avoid the bar soap, you'll be much better off. Oh, and get a really wide shower caddy. If you shop online (like Amazon) read the reviews of what people say about them. That's usually very helpful.

Yikes! I just realized you meant the kind where you put the soap/gel into it and push a button to get it out. I have one I bought new at a garage sale but I'm not going to use it because it uses screws and I don't want to do that to my new shower. Anyway, ignore my previous answer. I'd still look at reviews before I bought one.

I bought a 3 section dispenser at Bed, bath and beyond 10 years ago for around $25. After a couple months, 1 section leaked from the o-ring breaking (took it apart and replaced o-ring) and a couple months later 2 pumps stopped working. Off the shower wall into the trash it went. Now I use pumps on my 1 liter shampoo, conditioner & shower gel. Still have to have 3 bottles in the shower, but a single malfunctioning pump is cheaper than trying to keep a 3 part dispenser working in my opinion.

I have a soap dispenser by my bath room sink- keeps the clutter off the very small sink area. that one works well. tried a double pump model- no so happy with it. i was hopeing to have shampoo and conditioner off of the tub ledge. the dispenser wasn't strong enough to carry the wt of shampoo and conditioner.
