Yes u can taking note that u will be raising the floor level. So be aware of the door openings Also u need to buy a solution to paint over existing tiles allow to dry first so it etches the old tile surface so the new tiled surface can adhere better to the old surface Good luck Not sure what it is called but u can ask the tile place or Hardware Store.Hope this was of help for you.Kind Regards Julie
While it may adhere to the tiles, the main problem is what lies underneath. Ceramic tile requires either cement or some variation of a backer-board designed to support the weight. If it's just a typical plywood floor, you will have problems with the grout crumbling and separating eventually. Good luck with your project!
If the old floor is cracking you need to fix the underlying floor or you will have the same problems. Also bear in mind the weight of two floors of tile will be heavy so you need to have someone make sure your floor has the support it will need. Good luck the person who did my floor didn't make the corrections needed so now it is my issue.
I wouldn't advise it, no. It's more trouble than its worth and you'll be getting a new bag of trouble as the comments above mentioned . I was married to a professional floor man for 15 years . Just get a maul (sledgehammer) and start taking out the frustrations of day/week/year. Invite some friends over, people love to smash things . Once its all smashed and scraped up, you may have to rent a sander to level the subfloor , but the new floor will look so much better and last longer .
