You can turn your vacation pictures into nice cup coasters! Or you can make them into black and white Polaroids and hang them from a pretty branch using twine. It's a great wall art piece!
I have many photos framed and hung in our powder room on the walls floor to ceiling. I always receive wonderful comments. Most are in smaller 5x7 frames. I use gold, silver, black or colored. I also included a few art projects from my children that are larger.
I use a shadow box. These have the depth to put little trinkets from vacations. I collect sand from where we vacationed and put that in the bottom of the frame. I then secure a picture to the back. These look really cute when shells and other things are added.
I made a NYC one also using a map as the background and putting everything in there from the broadway show "program" to the glasses given out on New Years Eve. Pictures from these events went in too. Very fun to make.
A hallway or entryway can become a vacation art gallery.
A shadow box could be the best way to display sentimental memorabilia from your special vacation (or other special occasion). I did a shadow box for my father, after he died 3 yrs ago... And it was really just for my heart and my memories to have them all in one place to honor him for the man he was and for the impact as my Dad, to me,in my life! I put lots of things in it it...from... Little post it notes, that he wrote me when he saw me bathing and dressing my son a couple weeks after he was born... He took a little yellow Post-It note and wrote the words "Bravo Zulu" on one post it...which meant essentially 'Great job' and on another Post-It note he wrote, 'Kathy likes being a Mommy!'. They were oh so special to me... as my dad never handed out a compliment or word or note that he did not 100% believe in... so the fact that he took a couple minutes to write those notes and put them on counter, next to my baby and walk away, was High Praise from my father! Of course, I included special pictures, index cards with paperclips and a pen...that he used to always have in his pocket, a replica of his keychain, his old glasses... Oh yes,I also included things that were super important to him. Like his family, The Navy, my father was a career officer and he loved being part of the US Navy...almost as much as he loved my mom! Songs we would sing on road trips to Western Maryland...memorabilia I bought online with the name of the two ships that he spent time on well it was in the Navy and that he was so proud to do his Navy service on, a picture of the u.s. flag because my dad loved our country and respected the flag dearly is it meant much more to him then a symbol of our Country, some 3D images of his favorite foods including ice cream, lol. It looks really cool I probably more so he's my dad & the memories are special to me. I did include some information about God and the Bible that I learned from my father... That it made impressions to me as a young child & young adult. I hope you do not forget a single detail because as time goes by... it's so easy to forget the things that made us so very happy in the moment. I'm really excited for you about your project. A simple spin on this could also be to take a wooden box that you could use for a coffee table or an end table...and then find an old window and put hinges on it to cover the top. Tada! How cool would that be...to use your coffee table or end table, as a rotating memory box of sorts๐ You would have a coffee table and Shadow box...all in one. Then you put any memorabilia in it you want...sentimental, silly or otherwise...inside of the coffee table, or end table...and you not only have created a awesome focal point in your room, but you get to look at all your lovely memories all the time. Plus, you can change it according to the year or the season or what's going on in your life. I think you have a great idea there...to group those things together! You've inspired me to maybe do this for a special things that happen in our lives here at home with my family and maybe have very small versions of it that we keep in an area of the home. Like a special night with the kids... A family reunion, the first day a new pet comes into the house... Like an 8 by 10 box that has little things in it about the new dog yet just got, from their first little color to a small toy to pictures of the dog throughout the years. I really want to see your shadow box when you're done, I hope you post it and bring it to my attention so I can see it, as well. And thank you because you just give me an idea that I think everyone in our family would treasure... Maybe how to choose a wall in the house like going up the stairs or another area in the house and anyway in the Home Can create a memory box that can be displayed all the time... It would be pretty to look at all of them as well as a walk down memory lane. And I bet company would enjoy it as well. This is just kind of a spontaneous thought but maybe using similar size boxes, let like 8x10 and then anyone can add one at any time as long as it's a compilation of things within a shadow box to encapsulate a special occasion, a important day, a period in life... Essentially it would be visual art work as a whole, I put on the wall and a gallery style eclectically or in a very orderly fashion, but it would absolutely end up being a shadow box and at the same time the whole unit of shadow boxes would become...
artwork,as well. I'm kind of going off of this spontaneous rambling...so if it sounds a little flaky, I apologize. But...at same time,I'm actually kind of excited about this! I'm going to give this some more thought...So thank you for that brainstorm, i got... with your question! Good luck with your shadow box project. Don't forget to send us pictures of your project please ๐
