What types of plants can I use on a sloping backyard?

I have a large bank gently sloping down from my back yard. What type of plants or ground cover can I use? It does have some shade and is on the Western slope of our yard. Every year weeds take over and it is very hard to mow and maintain. I would appreciate any advice. Thank you

  Black or green mondo grass,Liriope,hosta,hecheras,creeping jenny,ajuga,ferns. astilbes,bleeding hearts,lily of the valley.
