Carpet or tile bedrooms?

Hi, my house has tile in everything but the bedrooms. Would it be odd to only carpet 1 room and tile the other 2.

Nah, each room can be different if you'd like. If you want to ensure consistency, maybe play on the rooms' colors- keep a theme there so that the floor differences won't really pop out too much. You got this!

Depends on how open the floor plan is. Usually if all the flooring is the same throughout the floor plan is very open and visible. If that is a concern I would opt for area rugs in the bedrooms. That way you can cover the area with colors and patterns that enhance the room without breaking up the natural flow of the open floor plan.

I owned a small home in Cottonwood and had tile installed in every room including the closets. They were easy to clean. I did use small area rugs where needed but I loved walking on the cool floors. They also helped keep the house cool during those long hot dry days of summer in Arizona. So, my answer is Yes, Tile Everywhere! Best of luck.

To prefer carpet or tile is of course a personal choice, but keep in mind that if you do choose to carpet a bedroom, and the adjoining hallway is already in tile there may be an issue with height difference, (of the floor and subfloor) and will be a big problem at the transition areas (where the two different floor coverings meet) usually in a doorway.

I agree with the above comment that if you really like the feel of carpet, and most of the flooring is already tile, keep the consistency, and add area rugs.

It's YOUR house..............do what makes you happy. I think most people would rather feel carpeting beneath their feet when they roll out of bed in the morning, but maybe I'm wrong. Tile would be easier to clean, but also colder on the feet.

  • I vote for the carpet, but I have arthritis in both feet and putting them down on cold tile (even with an area rug), is painful. But this is your house. Do what makes you happy. If at all possible, keep it coordinated with the rest of the home decor. Go for it!
