Place large buckets of damp rid through your home which will pull the excess moisture out.
I think you are asking how to rid the smell that you face when you are actually in your home? One of the quickest ways to add a fresh smell to a home and one that I always use when cleaning, is lemon Pine-Sol. I clean with it and also burn a lemon scented Yankee Candle. The smell of the two will definitely freshen up the musty air. Open the windows as soon as you can as well. Run a fan or two at the same time to circulate the air.
PS... If I want to freshen up the air, without actually cleaning, I 'hide' a couple small buckets of water with a couple tablespoons of Pine-Sol mixed into it.
Good Luck!
Before you leave fl, scatter a few boxes worth of fabric softener sheets around. Put them in drawers, closets, cabinets, etc. put a few between mattress and box springs, too. Any place you can think of. Under cushions, pillows. Makes a big difference.
A lot of times the musty smell comes from the drains from the hair build up then it dries while you are gone and upon your return and use of water the hard compacted dry hair is now stuck on the drain plug and holding the smell. Remove plugs by unscrewing post in drain pipe under sink then pull post toward back of cabinet wall to release plug to clean. Once this is done, before reinstalling plug screw post back in to drain pipe. Then take 2 tbspns of baking powder and put in drain, then pour white vinegar in the drain (it we bubble and fizz up, it is suppose to) once complete rinse out with water and then unscrew stopper post again and replace stopper in drain, line up hole in plug until post is inserted in hole and check pull to make sure that plug works with the pull and then tighten up the post this should eliminate your smell
an effective way to eliminate musty odors is to destroy them with an ozone machine and not just cover up
