James A on Apr 20, 2011Is there anyway you can build a fascia wall from the floor to the ceiling, in front of the concrete block wall, relying on the floor and ceiling to provide support? Apparently, the concrete blocks were mixed with too little water. Concrete sealant may stop the crumbling. Other than that, which is probably a long shot, the wall should be replaced. It may be time to call in a pro, try C&C Restoration, http://www.hometalk.com/member/cc1234 or LGM Inc, http://www.hometalk.com/member/matluk123Helpful Reply

Dan's of Central Florida, Inc. on Apr 20, 2011Hello Danielle, What type of anchors are you trying to use currently? They make different types of anchors for different types of masonry. If you tried the kind rated for a hallow cinder block wall and they are not working correctly, you might try a "toggle bolt" type anchor. These are bolts that have a washer type thing that will fold out like wings. You insert them through a small hole far enough for the wings to spread open, then tighten it down so that the wings clamp down and sandwich the wall. You should be able to use these to attach boards to the wall and then attach your cabinets to those boards. You might even use some construction adhesive caulk (such as Power Grab) between the block wall and mounting boards for additional durability.Helpful Reply

KMS Woodworks on Apr 20, 2011You could also "skin" the wall with some plywood....mounting it with tapcons, and construction adhesive.Helpful Reply
