Do you need to completely replace the countertops? Or would you be open to just repairing and painting?
If you'd like, you can paint them for a brand new look- http://www.hometalk.com/diy/paint/furniture/counter-top-remodel-for-20-00-5138138
Counter Top Remodel for around $20.00!
You can do your own concrete countertops- http://www.hometalk.com/diy/-4634811
You can tile over formica counters. Just clean them, scuff them with sandpaper, and apply the mastic, tile and grout. Or you could use vinyl stick-on tiles, sheet or click-lock planks with some kind of metal or wood edging.
