Hi. It's hard to tell if your room is pale yellow, off white and sunny, or just white. If pale yellow, you can still use the wall color as a neutral and put any color your heart desires with it. Personally, I love color in all its iterations. A bright turquoise body with a dark stained top would be beautiful. Unicorn Spit has gel paints that blend and can be used watered down to allow wood grain to show through or can be used as is to paint opaque on the wood. If you're not into turquoise and still reach for color what about a beautiful emerald green? You can use a darker antiqueing wax over the green to mute it but be sure to cover it in clear wax prior to the dark wax so you can get depth of color you want. I could see that beautiful chest in any color with a stained OR a painted top. Since there is no other color visible in the photo there's no hint at your preferences. Go pink. Go cobalt blue. Go asparagus or spearmint green. Go crazy and do it in lavender with orange stripes but go have fun doing it! It is a beautiful piece of furniture and you are fortunate to have the opportunity to make it your own. I hope we can see it after you've finished. And if you decide on antique white it will be just as lovely. Did you notice I didn mention gray or black? They have been done to death lately. You may love gray and if you choose it, more power to you. Have fun!
Thank you so much Pam for taking the time to reply, let me give you another perspective about the wall color as it pretty much was set by previous owners and is everywhere. Ï stink at picing out colors and knowing which goes with what, etc etc pictures of examples help me a great deal, the actual techniques or dying is easy breezey, just not the colors LOL,... ï appreciate your help, I knew when I saw this piece it was special and would fit perfectly....
I'd go with turquoise for the bottom and a white top. Try to color match the teal in the pillows on your couch.
And then post "after" pictures - would love to see how it turns out.
I completely agree, TURQUOISE would look beautiful!!! Please post pics when it's finished.
Have fun and enjoy !!!!
I'm going to go in a different direction. The glass in the door suggests that the house has a Prairie or Mission Style influence. I associate that with warm, muted colors like gold, olive, terra cotta, and various browns. The first color I thought of was olive green. I like Pam's suggestion of muting the color with dark wax.
thank you Kathryn, sorry for just now seeing this. I'm learning about styles and what my new home is,...we close very soon :) I did and am in the prcess of painting it. I chose a blue grey but trying to figure out how to make the details pop!!! whether to antique brass and gold accents, dark wax.... or ?!?!?! Thanks for your suggestion as olive was a considered color!! DARN!!!! I just repainted my entire table a creamy color with distressing...pics as soon as they are both done...
I have not added the wax to it, but so far my Lil dresser front entry table has been transformed
