I went to Home Depot and purchased narrow wood doors that are intended to be put on a track and work in a accordion fashion for small closets or laundry areas. They are relatively inexpensive and I needed a large divider so I got 4 doors and hinges that allow door to swing both ways. I painted them then attached the hinges and they came out darling. They are lightweight, easy to adjust to your desired look, fast to assemble and inexpensive. Good Luck
Often shops like Pier 1 carry inexpensive nice divider screens. Also go onto Craigs List and eBay for some choices.
I agree with Michele I also saw a post where they used reclaimed accordion closet doors.
Open book shelves might work too.
