i live in central Oklahoma and need to know when I should cut my rose bushes back and how much. Thank you
You're going to want to do it just before the plant breaks dormancy after spring's final frost. This will be early in the year in warm climates, and anytime between January and April in cold climates. If it's old roses you are tending, prunethem after blooming. Good luck!
In North Carolina, we cut rose bushes back 10 to 12 inch in March and/or by April 1st and also the monkey grass and butterfly bush.
I trim mine back in fall!
I live in Ontario. I prune my roses every spring. Remove any dead branches/canes. Also remove anything that may look diseased or damaged. When trimming use sharp pruners and trim at a 45 degree angle. You want to "open" the bush to promote new growth. Pruning in the spring will not stop flowers later in the year. Check and see if you have a local horticulture society we page, the may have suggestions for your region.
