There are people who do re-caning, but it is an expensive proposition. I had it done to two rocking chairs that belonged to my grandmother. However, age and weather took their toll even though I did not keep them out in the rain but on a covered porchand took them inside for the cold weather. For inside use, it might be worth the money. I would go on line and try to find someone in your area who does recane furniture and see if you feel it's worth the investment. An antique or second hand dealer might be able to guide you to someone. If done correctly, the finished product is lovely.
The weathered look is so in right now I would spray that with a good primer first the spray primer is they have out now are amazing (do it outside because they stink) using oil based then I would spray it whatever color you would like then use an accent blanket on the top of it or like a small quilt perhaps to cover up some of the back so just drape it over the top it could be super cute
when a wicker piece is re caned, the cane is soaked in water then applied to frame. if the cane/wicker isn't actually broken you might try a spritz of water mild cleaner and out in the sunlight to dry. if you want to try "blocking" it" that's possible.... but i didn't get to see that part done so i can't help on that part.
I inherited this child sized rocker and would like to repaint and reupholster it. Can I use a paint stripper on the wicker? Some of the wicker pieces look like a raff...

Is the wicker frayed or totally broken?
This wasn't my question, but I am interested in any ideas. The back of my wicker rocker is very frayed.
