Think shabby chic, if not shabby chic, think nautical, think ship lap, think light colors (white, light blues), then and only then, think about your accessories - choose what you love. Happy hunting.
Try a wall decor by taking roof flashing (galvanized metal strips) and running them from ceiling to floor with decorative nails. This brightens the bathroom and also makes a great back splash for the kitchen with a slight retro feel.
For a cottage feel, I'd install shiplap or beadboard to your walls. If shiplap, I'd do all the walls from floor to ceiling. If beadboard, I'd do 2/3 of the walls with beadboard (bottom) and paint it white and then paint the top 1/3 a color of your choice, maybe light, light blue or light grey. I'd install chrome faucets on the sink and shower. For flooring, choose small white square tiles with a grey grout. Finish with coordinating towels, shower curtain, etc.
I like to recommend Houzz.com it is great for inspiring. Hard to give a good answer without pictures, measurements etc. This web site is the best for ideas.
