Ugh....I have tons of them and milk snakes. However, mine must be vegetarian as the chipmonks, voles, and field mice are out of control in my yard!! I should evict them for not doing their part.
I leave my snakes alone. The smaller garter snakes eat the bugs and the larger ones eat various pests (mice, etc. ) that would eat my vegetables!
