I do the same, though to be honest, I always get impatient when it comes to sanding, its my least favorite part.
Oh, I guess I never researched this....I add water to the paint and put on with a brush then sand as needed.
Down on the farm circa 1950's: We white washed the inside of our barn using garden variety lime and water !!!!!!
