If there are door ways put up a tension rod and get a drape
have you considered the bunk beds that have a full size bed on the bottom and a twin on top. Put them back to back with a painted plywood screen in between them. You can hang an under cabinet mount light on the wall for each bunk if someone wants to read and a very small night stand on either side. In collectionsetc.com you can get very small night stands for around 15.oo.
Copper pipes could be mounted to the ceiling studs to hang curtains from. A privacy screen could be anchored to lamp hooks screwed into ceiling studs to keep it from toppling.
I'm a bit confused on the need for privacy issue. If guests are staying over at my home, one family uses the guest bedroom then other guests (from another family) sleep elsewhere, such as on an inflatable mattress in the living room. However, if you are really wanting a division, simply mount a drapery track on the ceiling between the two beds then hang a full-length curtain. I'd pick a material that's the same color as the bedroom walls thus, when the drapery is pulled back, it blends into the wall color. A relative of mine rented a small apartment where the bedroom and living area were all in one room. She mounted a track on the ceilingm bought material that matched the walls (her sofa was also the same color) and it looked great.
Thank you for all these ideas. I'm mulling. ;-). Elaine, the only reason I was thinking of privacy, is because sometimes it's a brother/sister or parents/teenager staying in the room. I just thought it might be a little more comfortable to have a little added privacy when sleeping. I do also have a queen size inflatable mattress that we throw down in the living room. Thanks again, everyone. Some great ideas!
Maybe venetian blinds or roman shades mounted on the ceiling - so if there's little ones, they can be pulled up out of reach. Reminds me of the old movie, It Happened One Night...
