Any way to stop noise made by walking accross floor?

My house was built in 1922. A new furnace was put in just before I bought it. The duct work is so close to the basement ceiling in places that there is an aluminum vibration noise when you walk in certain areas. I can't afford to have someone professional fix it. Is there any way to stop this? There aren't any loose boards above the duct work.

Maybe you might try putting an extra tie down on the duct where it vibrates, they have a 3/4' thin metal strip with holes along it at the hardware store. Screw one end into the joist, wrap under the duct and bring up to the joist to support and screw in. If your crafty, try using a metal coat hanger, creating a curled end to screw into the joist, then twist under the duct, bring up to the joist and make another curled end to screw into the joist.

Vibration being transferred to flooring. If the basement is not finished. You can get some foam pipe insulation or foam sheet and cut pieces of it and squeeze it anywhere the ductwork is attached to the joists or where the vibrations are.

Thanks for the idea William! I'll try the foam. Do you think pieces of styrofoam would work? I have a bunch of that. Maybe I'll have a styrofoam squeek then though.

How do you easily stop squeeky floors. First time having a basement. Every floor squeaks, please advise Tina

Work talcum powder between the board, works great on squeaky stairs also. Attach acoustic ceiling tile to the underside of the floor if you have the clearance. There is such a thing as sound proof panels if you really want to isolate the sound.

Did you try using the metal tape to do the pipe joints? And also possibly wrapping the whole pipe in that metal fabric with insulation on the back. Lastly I would make some shims of styrofoam and wedge them between the flooring and the pipe.
