I have a dog and cats in the yard and do not want to use chemicals...

I am 80 years old and have a very large yard with too many flower beds. I simply cannot keep them weeded any more and mulching is too expensive.
Should I turn them back to grass or how can I make gardening easier? Thanks

There's a cool natural trick for taking care of weeds in flower beds that I like to use. All you have to do is cover the beds with layers of newspapers. On top of that you can lay down some mulch such as grass clippings or wood chips. This chokes out the weeds and they will die. Good luck!
