Buy the contractor grade weed block
Buy mulch! It helps with watering and when a weed sprouts, you can just pull them out, roots and all. It also helps the soil.
mulch alone will not keep weeds out
Use Preen, and then mulch. Do not use landscape fabrics in flower beds. Ants will get under the fabric, and the weeds will grow eventually in the decomposed mulch and be hard to get out of the fabric. The fabric is only good under gravel paths.
Cardboard, newspapers, mulch.
