Would you consider doing matching accent walls to tie the suite together? You can do a slightly deeper blue to offset the look.

Stip and restain then polyurethane. The wood grains on the waterfall furniture is absolutely beautiful Another option is to sell it to someone who wants to redo to the original finish and you can paint a bedroom set made of manufactured wood.
I wouldn't use poly as top coat.....it yellows. On old furniture, better to put a coat of spar varnish on then paste wax and buff.
