Spray the lawn down with Orthos Crabgrass killer.
There comes a time when you have to call in a professional. I contracted with Tru-green when I finally concluded I was losing the war with crabgrass. And the reason is because all my neighbors have it and I realized that the wind was seeding my yard..now I am the only one that doesn't have crabgrass! I do not have a single weed in my yard! That is because they spray pre-emergence at the right time of the year and the seeds that blow over here from my neighbors' yards do not germinate!
I have Zoysia which turns brown in winter and there is not a single green thing in it in winter. I would send a photo now, but it is beginning to green up and will not be fully out until about mid to late May.
(BTW, we were spending a lot more on chemicals, sprayers, digging, etc. every year than we do on the professional costs!)
It is a problem when your neighbors don't treat there lawns as well. I hate crabgrass and fortunately can control it by pulling (don't have much). I've also decided that other interesting green plants growing in my lawn add texture and color. Of course, in my heart I think lawns are overrated and should be eliminated . . . maybe that's why I really encourage the interesting green plants.
