Do you know which round -up he used?
2 or more years
Oh goodness me! While he probably meant well, I would be hopping mad! Find out which one he used then go from there. I would also call their 800 customer service number and see if they can help or recommend anything other than time . . . Worth a phone call . . .
I wouldn't plant vegetables on ground that has been treated with Roundup. It is a highly toxic herbicide manufactured by Monsanto that contains glyphosat, and other carcinogenic chemicals that have been known to cause non-Hodgkins lymphoma in humans. People need to stop using dangerous herbicides to eliminate unwanted plants. After they do their initial dirty deed, they percolate down into the water table and continue to poison our drinking water. Wake up, people!
There are differing kinds, I know I have one that you can plant within a couple days. You need to find out which one he used. Would call the company your gardener works for, as he should not have used something like that if he knew you were going to be planting the area with vegetables or flowers. Maybe they will have to do something to solve that problem, like replace the soil.
A quick Google search and the answer is 3 days. Round up does not take long to break down in the soil.
There are different formulas of Round Up. Check their website for advice: https://www.roundup.com/smg/templates/index.jsp?pageUrl=rupHomh OR https://www.roundup.com/smg/templates/index.jsp?pageUrl=product-picker
The product picker will help you find the right formula to use. I believe you might want to use one that can be planted after 3 days. They also have a live chat feature.
