eaves carry on photosynthesis for next year's growth. Cut off brown tips—and cut the flowering stalk down to the rhizome to discourage rot. ... After 2 to 5 years, when clumps become congested or lose vitality, divide and replant sound rhizomes in fresh soil. The best time to replant irises is soon after bloom.

Just leave them alone. It was because of the warm up and then again a cold snap. The bulbs feed from the leaves so cutting them down will discourage blooms. If production was not up to par by the end of spring, then in the fall divide them.
