What do I apply to wood furniture to make it weather proof?

Last year I purchased two vintage chairs. I used outdoor paint on them and a coat of polyurethane. In three months the chairs had cracked (one seat), the paint was cracked and peeling. I have sanded the chairs and re-painted and keeping them indoors.

Use marine grade wood sealers meant for outdoor usage.

Excessive sun exposure will also make paint crack and peel.

I would go to a hardware store, and ask this question, there maybe a weather proof stain, that you can use, and this will be your answer. In the winter, I would cover the chairs with plastic and anchor the plastic so it will not blow away. If you can put these chairs under the house, this would be better. Enjoy, and I hope this helps you. Judy.
