Help design my white washed brick fireplace mantle
I need ideas for my white washed brick fireplace mantle. Every day decor.
I would put faux rock directly over the fireplace, then tear out the right side if possible, and build floor to ceiling shelves. Or if you can't rip out the un-used part of the fireplace, just build shelves from the top of it to the ceiling, and still use rock over the fireplace wall.
Is it real brick ?
I would paint the brick and the wall the same colour (a new colour or the same). I would then place a huge wood basket in front of the right hand side and make a feature of that side of the space. Maybe a strong woven basket or some thing copper (depends on your taste). In the summer you can place a large plant into the wood basket or fill it with pine cones and in the winter it will obviously be used and stacked full of firewood. I really do not see it as too much of an issue but if you really do not like it at all then I would get a professional in to remove the right hand side of the brick work. To carry the eye vertically not horizontally I would put up a large Vertical Mirror or piece of Art.
Personally, I would put a few large cast iron cooking pots, that look like cauldrons, in front of the brick on the right. They can hold kindling and firewood. A cast iron kettle beside the opening. Cast iron cook ware and old utensils on the mantle and hanging below it. And, of course, a popcorn popper to use in the fire.
The alcove above could show off an old cradle, or a spinning wheel.
I would take out the 3 rows of brick on the right to make the fireplace look better. Use the area you took out for storing your firewood. If you choose to line the firebox, then match the color of that to your mantle. That white mantle is the wrong color against the dark color of the walls. The walls make the fireplace stand out and the white mantle destroys the look. Lighten up the wall color, make the mantle like a walnut wood stain and the wood box liner the same. Shouldn't be too much work. It looks like you have a very nice planter there. Have that appraised.
Everything is changing, flooring paint, mantle.
I would like a storage area to the right side to balance it off.
Thanks 😀
