Mine did the same thing. After hours on google search I found that landscape adhesive worked best. Someone also told me clear silicone works also
E6000 glue from Michaels and other places is a super glue for many craft projects.
Yep, E6000. Practically every Hometalker raves about E6000. I never used it until this weekend. Slit a seam in two placemats, filled with fiber fill, glued the seams with E6000. Worked like a charm. Used it to glue flowers, and glass beads on a welcome sign when I repainted my poor frogs. Did the job and holding up great outdoors.
Plumbers glue will also work and it's made for moist/wet conditions. A note about E6000 glue; once it becomes cloudy it loses its adherence. Place directly on the item you're gluing or squeeze out only a small amount at a time.
Clear silicone does not work. Mine fell apart to
Hot glue "hot" will melt in direct sun and heat . The glass gems make it worse and will slide right off. Most things with hot glue will do this in the sun.
E6000 will also do this.
To get a clear look with something like you are doing " the globe" you should use a clear window/ door sealant caulk made for outside. Something that is heat resistant.
It also looks like you used a plastic bowl, when heated plastic gets hot and also melts. Or is that styrofoam, if it is then rough up the ball first before putting on sealant and the gems.
Try this next time maybe you will have better luck
One more thing, I use all types of glue for all types of different projects. It depends on what material and/ or where I plan on displaying the project ( in or outside).
Everyone raves about a glue/adhesive called "E6000" -- I bought it at Michaels (used my coupon) but haven't tried it yet. Hot glue never works well for outside projects :( Good Luck!!!
It's simply because there are several type of hot glue for glue gun. Some are for inside, some for outside, and then some are specialised on particular materials. The thing is to choose the right one... But affectively, some other sticky product work best and last longer...!!!
I made some penny balls for the garden as gifts last Christmas. I used E6000 and it worked like charm!
I'm pretty sure there is no adhesive that will work indefinitely outside, on glass or bowling balls. However, E6000 or a clear silcone adhesive seem to give me the longest lasting adhesion. After a year or two, you may have to do some minor fixing. I've also started using Loctite Stik'N Seal outdoor adhesive (crystal clear) and not only do I get a really good bond, but it bonds quickly. I haven't used it long enough to speak to the long term duration of the product.
Keeping those types of items in shady areas helps as well. BTW: you didn't fail, you just had a learning experience.
I've used GE Silicone (clear) to glue about a million gems to bowling balls. I live in the Seattle area and leave them outside year-round. After some time, a few might fall off but I can't complain. On the bowling balls, I sand them to dull the finish. I think they stick better that way-- it also helps remove some of the lane oil from the balls. Good luck.
Have you tried Locktite? (not sure of spelling). Gorilla glue? Best of luck.
I did it the first time also...buy Gorilla glue!!!
I used clear 100% silicone on mine and has lasted 3 years even being left out in the winter
