what about a layer of crushed stone?
red gravel or crushed seashells.
Stone is your best option.
Line driveway with a choice of one of these bricks/concrete blocks/outdoor 4/4 lumber/ then place potted plants on top. In winter use shephard hook stakes and hang with wind-chimes.
could also include chimes/hooks with potted plants.
I would line it with stone/pavers and use what's called grinds. You can find them fairly cheap I believe. It's the ground up asphalt from when they are repaving. it just lays down and has a black/gray look. It can easily be dug up. I would put down the stone/paver edge to keep it contained. Good luck.
