I don't know about best, but here in Texas we are fond of metal roofs. And you can often get a discount on your insurance, but check with insurance company for requirements. My son even has a metal house with a metal roof. He washes it down with a garden hose -- no painting and it looks great. You have to be up close to figure out that it's metal.

Put a new roof here on house no 3. Metal roofs are loud when it rains or hails went with the standard asphalt shingles.

  • Depends upon where you live and what may or may not work on the type of your structure. How about calling your insurance agent to find out what may be the considered to be the best for your area and to keep premiums as low as possible?

I have a metal roof and lots of insulation in the attic. Not much noise.

Here in the San Joaquin valley your best bet is a 30 year asphalt shingle. We just had a roof put on our mobile home last summer. Mobile homes have less insulation than homes and we still had no problem keeping our home cool even with vaulted ceilings. Ultimately it depends on the look you want. Our last home was cinder block and had a cement tile roof.

Metal roofing is the best option in my opinion as metal roofs have lots of benefits. Metal roofs are long-lasting because of their durability; metal roofs can last anywhere from 40 to 70 years. Metal is fire-resistant – metal will not spark or catch fire. Metal is insect-resistant. And in the future, if you face any kind of damage like leaks and cracks, it would be an easy repair by EPDM roof sealant which works best on metal roofs. So, besides solar panels, EPDM rubber roof sealant offers great protection against hurricane and storms as it is waterproof and airtight.
