Mix dish soap in a bucket of warm water and scrub with a soft bristle brush. After that, wipe the whole thing with a damp towel and let it dry in the sun!
I'm afraid that won't kill the mold . You try to wipe it down with white vinegar. This may kill the mold but will probably cause discoloration . We had massive flooding here about 9 months ago and the only thing that has proven successful after a good cleaning is a wipe down with concentrated orange oil. Look for it at your older furniture stores.
Using vinegar is your best bet...why? Think about it...what do you use vinegar for? Right, PICKLING?PRESERVING...My late Uncle worked in a shipyard repairing wooden boats; he dealt with dry rot/mold all the time. He told me that they would scrape away as much rotted wood as they could & sprayed it down with vinegar & let it dry. He said the vinegar killed the bacteria/mold spores & 'pickled them'...so anytime I've run into a situation of mold or bacteria in damp places, I've used vinegar & put a heater in that room to keep it 'just warm enough' so there was no more dampness.
