I have a 30 year old linoleum kitchen floor that needs to be replaced. We have very little money, but want something that looks nice that we can do ourselves. Any replacement ideas out there?

Pallet flooring? The material is free but needs work in sanding or planing. It can be sealed with marine grade polyurethane or paint.

Peal & stick tiles. Easy to do and easy to trim when needed.

If it's in good enough shape (that is no chips or tears) you can easily paint it with porch and floor paint in latex. I did it to our 1970's vinyl flooring and it worked great! Everyone wanted to know what kind of flooring it was. You can do designs but I just painted it all one color. We loved it with two kids, their friends and dogs for many years.

I would suggest maybe looking into plywood planking the floor. The big box home improvement stores will cut them at an extremely low cost!
