where exactly are the ants?
Hi Virginia! The best thing you can do as a preventative measure is to caulk/seal any entryway they might have into your home- windows, walls, ect. To kill the ones that are already there- mix baking soda with some powdered sugar and sprinkle it where they are. Good luck!
Have the area treated with a synthetic pyrethrin insecticide - toxic to ants, fleas, snails, bees, beetles, spiders and fish... harmless to mammals - dogs, cats people... after it has dried you get 2 to 3 months of protection. If you can dose an area where their nest is you will get considerably longer as the nest has to rebuild.
Anything that will disrupt their scent trails will keep them outside. Just place ground cinnamon or chili powder near entryways, and in nearby corners.
You might also try leaving lemon peel at doors and windows and around dogs food. Just check often in case of mold.
