What kind of paint can I use to paint my pegboard so it doesn't swell?

We just moved into a new home and I have a nice room to turn into my craft room. I am putting up a pegboard, but want it to look nice. I want to paint it And put a frame around it. What kind of paint do yo use that won't make it swell?

I always love recommending chalkpaint it works on most surfaces and cuts out sanding and priming.

Another type of paint that won't clog the holes causing it to swell is spray paint. And you can also incorporate stencils either identifying areas of your crafts, etc.

Take the board outside and spray it with a light coat of your chosen color. It will dry quickly and you shouldn't have a problem.

steer clear of water based paints- i tried painting peg board w/ it and the fiber board soaked up the moisture- making it swell. good thing it was for the garage-the paint was from a re-store.

  • Thanks. I made some chalk paint and gave it four coats. Perfect!!! No swelling and it is on the wall. Yea!!!
