Painting deck
Whitewash it.
Check your shed or shelf & see what stains you have...mix them [like types...of course] together & create YOUR OWN COLOR [one of a kind], if you need additional to cover the job...purchase stain that will bring you closer to the color you want [keep in mind that the stain that's already on the deck will modify what you put on]. Happy staining!
First you should lightly sand off the deck to get rid of paint or stains flakes. Then buy a good coloured stain or paint and simply roll it on...you do not need to remove all the old color first even though the can will say you should. I did my deck which was a terrible brown paint..sanded (took couple hours) then rolled on coloured stain and that was 3 years ago and still looks great. Save the left over paint or stain in garage for touch ups.
We also covered ugly old wood. We bought solid deck paint by Behr Home Depot. You can't see through it, so it completely changed the deck look. It does need recoating, especially in wear spots, every once in a while, but it saves us from having to do a new deck. Like Kim said, save the left-over paint for touch ups. We used a light driftwood color, and the change in the deck was tremendous. It even looks nicer from inside the house looking out.
