Will peel and stick smart tiles work above tub surround?
We want to put them from surround top to the ceiling on the three walls around the bathtub.
Yes as long as the floor is even and clean.
IF YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT FLOOR TILES, YES, BUT WATCH SPILLS AS THEY WILL TURN BOTH LOOSE & CURL UP THE CORNERS. IF YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT WALL TILES OR CERAMIC TILES, I WOULD BE WARY OF THOSE BECAUSE IF CONDENSATION GETS BEHIND THEM, THEY COULD BOTH FALL OFF THE WALL. I WOULD RECOMMEND YOU CALL & TALK TO A PROFESSIONAL CARPENTER & GET HIS/HER OPINION BEFORE INVESTING OR STARTING YOUR PROJECT. THEY WILL KNOW STUFF THAT ISN'T FOUND ON SOCIAL MEDIA.
Whether they are on the floor or the wall, peel and stick type tile are designed to come off easily when the glue is heated . If your blow dryer on high doesn't do it , you may be able to rent one really cheap for the day . Either way , I'd definitely recommend removing the old before applying the new . Good luck with your project and please post pictures !
It's possible and often done. I've worked on houses that have had as many as 5 layers of linoleum. Problem with that is that if the adhesive of the older tiles fails, the upper tiles comes up as well. They can also cause issues with doors opening properly, removing and replacing dishwashers, ridges in the floor, and other problems. Personally, I'd invest the $25 to get a pole scraper at Home Depot and take it up.
A job done properly will save work, time and money later. The self stick tiles are not meant to be layered on top of another layer, just as linoleum was never intended to be put on layer after layer. That doesn't mean it can't be done.
It would be better to take off what is there and make a clean smooth surface. They will last longer and won't pull up. They really are fast and cheaper than a lot of floors.
