Changing Color of New Cabinets?

by BabyBoomerSC
We moved into a new house early last year and we chose a spec house that was already being built/in progress. The kitchen cabinets were already installed and although I would not have chosen this color, I had to accept them as part of the purchase since they were already installed. See picture below.

Anyway.....they are an orange color and I'm wondering what I can do with them to change the color. I don't want to paint them, so I'm wondering if there is another option such as staining over them. These same cabinets are in the bathrooms as well.

Any suggestions?

Lightly sand, clean, stain and seal them with a polycrylic sealer. Research Min-

Back in the eighties we bought a repo house that had kitchen cabinets that had actually darkened over time. We took them down, stripped them and restained them with a natural lighter color and polyurethaned them and it totally made them so beautiful compared to what they were. It brought back the wood grain that you couldn't see because they were so dark. We did them over time, a couple each weekend. It was a long haul, but so worth it! By the time we repainted, recarpeted, and redid the basement family room walls we added forty thousand to the value of the price of the house when we sold it a few years later. The only problem was the homes in the neighborhood were valued much lower than the price we could have asked. The only things we didn't do ourselves was put in the carpet and spray the family room ceiling we replaced(it had been ripped out before we moved in).
