Actually, the picture doesn't really look that bad but obviously, it is bothering you. Maybe start with the least amount of paining and perhaps pick up a color in the flooring (dark grey?) on the base trim or repaint it white.. The walls look like they are floating right now.
Take a close up picture of the floor & walls with your phone. Grab paint chips. I agree with Elizabeth, separate the walls/floors with a little color. I always am overly cautious when choosing paint color. I use Home Depot's Project Color App, then head for paint chips. Paint chips get stuck on the wall taped to a sticky note. When I find a color I like, I'll grab a sample and paint a few areas. I let it be for a week or so to see if I'll like it in the different lights of the day. (I loved a peach color, paint chip was gorgeous but when sample was painted on the wall in 2 coats, it took on a neon pink tone. Sometimes patience pays off!)
I love your floor. For me, I'd paint all the walls Sherwin-Williams Repose Gray, and the trim and windows in semi-gloss White. I believe the color will enhance your floors will definitely work with all bedding and linens. You can go coastal, contemporary, tuscan, shabby chic, any decor design you wish. Best of luck.
I am putting this floor in an upstairs bedroom. I agree with Elizabeth's suggestions for the baseboard! I am going with a beach theme with a wall color of a sea green/blue, but these colors work so well with so much more! good luck! ...and remember..its what YOU like!
How much of the floor is that color? You have shown such a small amount that it's hard to see the rest of the floor. I sure would not paint the baseboard white! Yipes, it is really going to show up the floor and wall difference. I like how the floor looks but it depends on what the rest of the floor looks like. Maybe more suggestions as we know the rest of the floor. Can you send a picture?
I think you issue when you choose your color scheme is lighting.I would definitely not paint anything white,in fact my opinion if you focus on accessories at this point you will see the paint color will look totally different.
easiest: large pics of family, baskets and/or weaving, in 3's on the wall this is three pics, three baskets , or three weavings unless the weavings are very large, then what fits on the wall. the white works as a background for the focus objects. large baskets and a colorful rug on the floor will bring the room together. furniture helps, a neutral, not white will help to enhance the room.
throw some plants in the room, also. they help the air quality. snake plant is an upright plant that is hard to kill, put it near some light and it may bloom.
I have three ideas 1) You could put up a mural. The space seems small enough it shouldn't cost much. Everyone loves my mural on a large wall in my living room. 2) you could use sponge or rags to integrate other colors. The paint section would have books on sample ideas. 3) There is a dry rub called Tatouage ( not sure of exact spelling)... I would get it on EBay. Many theme designs. I purchased sandune, seabirds and shells and made my own design.
I would make the baseboard black.
