My little table needs help!

I found this table at Goodwill and love it, but not the color. I think it's laminate and particle board. I was thinking chalk paint, and then remembered seeing what people have done with Unicorn Spit. I want something funky. The doors slide back and forth and there is a shelf inside. I like the cutouts but not the wicker fabric. I need inspiration. What do you guys think I should do?

Great bones! I think we used to have a console table with a record player in it that looked like that. Unicorn spit is terrific, what about replacing the wicker fabric with a stamped piece of thin copper or other metal with a design you like? Depending on how bright the paint is it could really stand out and you could put a band of the same around the bottom of the feet. It would be thin and not interfere with sliding the doors.

You could get really funky and put in frosted plexi with an LED strip behind it with remote color control so you can change the color when ever you fell like it. That's a great find, hope you show us what it turns into!

The picture looks a little dark on my monitor, so it's hard for me to see the wicker. Do the doors have wicker in them?

Anyway, this cabinet has great lines! I would look at all the Unicorn SPiT projects here and on Pinterest and the Unicorn SPiT Facebook page to get ideas.

About the wicker...you could replace it with plexi or metal as Kym suggests. I think metal would be more true to the mid century style...plexi with LED sounds really cool, but also like it might be have more of an 80s vibe. Myself, I'd leave the wicker in place and paint it. But I like wicker, so...

I like to use gel stain on laminates. Maybe a black/ebony stain. Paint it on with the grain and don't rub it off for full coverage. Can even put it on the wicker as it looks to be in great shape.

Homemade chalk paint (baking soda and a sample sized jar of paint from a big box store that rhymes with stow's. Check for the recipe on Pinteres). Could always paint the wicker. Paint the piece first and let it tell you what it needs. Mirror? Textured wallpaper? Gold or silver leafing? What will you use this piece for? mini bar? Good luck and please post when you finish it!

Great piece o furnitur! Take out the inserts, leave spaces open. Paint a primer coat inside and out. Paint contrasting colors inside and out with narrow stripes around the firs couple of inches on the top using the inside color. Crackle if you want and top with spice of glass cut to size!

Hurts my little mid-century modern heart to see you paint that, it will lose all value. The fabric inserts were probably because it had some form of radio or 78 record player in it at some time.

But if you must, try dying the wicker inserts with liquid Rit fabric dye and a sponge brush.
