Japanese beetles. There really no know for sure cure all. I would keep spraying the horticultural oil and with that perhaps make an additonal spray with garlic and water.
use round up once and for all - spray it in the soil too
Round -up will not work on Japenese beetles instead it will put more chemicals in the earth all to cause cancer.....
You can go to your home and garden store and purchase Japanese beetle traps....they work
You can try using a little dish soap and the oil in water and spray your plants. The soap causes the water to sheet and the oil will smoother the bugs. Having the natural predator type bugs is the best, but the pesticides kill good as well as bad. Over using them creates a cycle that permits the bad bugs to thrive. Lady bugs are big on aphids, and dragon flies and praying mantis are good for the bigger bugs. Our world is so messed up from all the pesticides it is hard to find a good solution that doesn't add to the problem. We have backed away from the pesticides and it is gradually making a difference. I wish you well.
Mix 1. Tsp dawn liquid, 1 tsp canola oil, in a quart spray bottle, fill with water, and spray in the morning. Kills aphids , red spiders
and other bugs.
Thanks for all your suggestions. Am trying traps and the soap and oil in water spray. Totally infested, hope I see progress soon.
I’ve read that coffee grounds work well as a deterrent. Not sure about since it’s already infested. It’s definitely worth a try!
Also, I always mix diatomaceous earth with my soil when I first pot the plants. It’s goes away over time with watering, so I either add more to the topsoil periodically or I take the plant out of the pot and replace the soil with new soil + DE. It has been a lifesaver and has kept my plants from many infestations!
I have made many of my own insecticidal soaps. Water, cayenne pepper, Dr. Bronner’s unscented soap, essential oils (peppermint, lavender, etc) and have sprayed it on the leaves. I find it works most of the time with aphids. They definitely don’t like it! But haven’t tried it with beetles.
I wish you the best! I know how frustrating it is when all you want to do it help your poor plant that you’ve put so much time and energy into. You’ve got this! You have and are learning so much. I know you’re doing everything you can! 👍🏼🪴🌷
Go to a diy store an get Japanese beetle traps, set them up with the pheromone on the top of the bag and hang at least 1 as far away from your cannas as possible. The beetles will be attracted to it, enter the bag and never come out again until you dump the contents of dead beetles onto the ground.
For the ones on your plants, knock them off into a can with soapy water.
Best to you.
