Turf or real grass?

I live in the Phoenix AZ area and we had our hearts set on turf in our backyard since we do not want to have to spend our weekends dealing with weeds and mowing, however we were told that turf has problems with heat and some have bad smells if you have a dog. Our back yard needs landscaping since it is a new home.we do not know what to do.

artificial grass has come a long way over the years. Our neighbor installed it in his back yard many years ago. It looked real, felt real, and the only maintenance was to wash it once in a while with a hose to send any doggie byproducts into the soil mixture below and in fall, he blew the leaves off. An expensive start up cost, but no fertilizer, daily watering, no lawn mower required. The perfect lawn in my opinion. Do your research about artificial gras in your area.

Actually we were just talking about turf today with friends and they said if they do not water the turf regularly at their house it rots away in the sun and they really regret putting it in
