I love the texture I just want to change the color.
how are you doing the spraying? commercial hopper or spray cans? I will tell you it's messy. there was a fire at my parents house, old soaked drywall out new in. if your walls are already painted, I'm not sure it will work. it's basically dry wall mud through a sprayer. if your walls have no paint, tape and tarp off anything you don't want sprayed. and be nice to your lungs and wear a mask. then take a wide flat tool over sized putty tool is what it looked like...and carefully flatted out the bumps of drywall mud. practice 1st on a scrap board b/4 you try it in your room.

I did a texture right over the top of wallpaper and after 12 years, it still looks fabulous. I simply purchased a 5 gallon bucket of joint compound and put it on my family room walls using a wide putty knife. For the small powder room, I smoothed it out with a trowel that had fine teeth in it. For added depth, I painted the walls and then color washed a different color so the texture really pops!
Just a side note, when texturing walls, it's better to have only 1 person do it as everyone has a different technique!!
I painted it after it dried. I've never tried adding the paint to the joint compound. It is VERY thick and would probably be extremely difficult to get it to mix thoroughly. You may want to practice on foam board or a garage wall before you commit to a technique on your walls!
its not as easy as you'd think... proceed with caution ; )
