This simple little project is a great way to welcome spring and attract some more nature into your yard. This mason jar bird feeder is super easy to make and very cute. Follow me on Pinterest for more fun crafts like this one.
First, gather your supplies. You really only need a few things that you probably already have around the house. This is a great chance to upcycle some old fabric scraps or make use of and old sheet.
Cut fabric into long thin strips.
Glue the wooden spoon to the side of the mason jar. My mason jar has a somewhat flat side which was perfect for the flat wooden spoon to lay against. The fabric will actually hold the spoon in place so the glue is really there just to keep everything together during assembly. The wooden spoon becomes the perfect perch for your feathered friends to sit on while getting their meal.
After the hot glue is dry, tie the fabric strips around the mason jar and double knot the fabric. Leave one end very long to tie around a shepherd’s hook or a tree branch.
Fill the jar with bird seed and tie to a tree branch or shepherd’s hook and enjoy as the birds visit your new DIY Mason Jar Bird Feeder! Make sure to keep the jar half full so the birds keep coming back.

If you want use only sunflower seeds. My parents use only sunflower seeds and in the spring the little sunflowers start sprouting. By summer time it looks like a picture from Better Homes & Garden Magazine.

I agree. Birds usually just push the seeds aside to get to the sunflower seeds. I started buying 100% Sunflower and get lots of flowers. Love it.

Have a question about this project?
What about rain getting in it?
Nice idea. Wouldn't the spoon get moldy? I would use a tree branch.
Had anyone thought about this... after creating this little jem & hanging it outside....the dang squirrels could possibly knock out all the seed...any suggestions to keep those pesky critters away from knocking down this project.....Thanks....Terri
